Using the Major V with a Mac
Codec: AAC. The Major V support SBC, AAC and LC3, and a Mac picks AAC, the better of the two. It carries the full 20 Hz to 20 kHz range at standard sample rates (44.1 or 48 kHz).
Calls sound worse than music. As soon as an app uses the headphones' microphone (Zoom, FaceTime, a dictation shortcut), Bluetooth switches to hands-free mode, which has much lower audio quality. Pick your Mac's built-in microphone as the input to keep the Major V in stereo music mode.
LC3 codec The Major V supports LC3 via Bluetooth LE Audio, but macOS currently uses AAC over classic Bluetooth.
How to EQ the Major V for now
AutoEQ publishes corrections from lab measurements, and none exists for the Major V yet. Rather than guess, this page will get the exact values as soon as a measurement is published. Until then:
- Start from Flat in TuningMac's menu bar popover, so you hear the Major V as Marshall tuned them.
- Adjust by ear with the 10 sliders, or try a preset such as Vocal or Bass Boost as a starting point.
- TuningMac saves your EQ for the Major V and loads it whenever they connect.
Closest measured model: Marshall Major III EQ settings. It was measured on the earlier model, so treat it as a rough starting point and adjust by ear.

What are the best EQ settings for the Marshall Major V?+
There's no measured correction for the Major V yet. AutoEQ hasn't published a measurement of the Major V yet. Marshall says it shares the Major family's 40 mm custom-tuned driver, so the Major III correction is the closest measured starting point. Until one is published, start from a flat EQ in TuningMac and adjust by ear; this page will get the measured values as soon as they exist.
Why do my Marshall Major V sound bad on calls on a Mac?+
When an app uses the headphones' microphone, Bluetooth switches from stereo music mode to a hands-free call mode with much lower audio quality. To keep music quality during calls, choose your Mac's built-in microphone as the input instead. TuningMac's Input list does this in one click, and its Device Info shows which mode you're in.
Should I turn off the EQ in Marshall's app?+
For the most accurate result, yes. An equalizer set in Marshall's app is applied inside the headphones, so it also affects your Mac and would add to this correction. TuningMac's EQ only changes sound from your Mac, so it won't affect your phone.
