EQ your AirPods, Pro and Max on macOS

Pick a preset such as Bass Boost, Vocal or Treble Boost, or shape the sound yourself with ten bands from 31 Hz to 16 kHz. It applies to everything you play through your AirPods: Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, movies, calls and games.

Bass and treble knobs give you quick tone changes, and Loudness keeps music full when you listen at low volume. Clip protection keeps bass boosts clean instead of crackling.

Your AirPods remember their sound

TuningMac saves an EQ for each device. When your AirPods connect, their settings load automatically; switch back to your Mac's speakers or another pair of headphones and those get their own sound. No re-tuning every time you put your AirPods in.

Use a measured correction curve

For the most accurate sound, open Advanced EQ and paste a correction curve for your model from AutoEQ, which publishes measurements for many popular headphones. It supports up to 20 parametric bands, and you can fine-tune them by dragging points on the graph.

Noise control and battery in the menu bar

Switch between Off, Transparency, Adaptive and Noise Cancellation on supported AirPods right from the menu bar. The battery level sits next to your AirPods in the output list.

TuningMac also charts the battery of each Bluetooth device over the last 24 hours or 7 days, so you can see how fast it drains and when it was last charged.

Questions

Can you change the EQ of AirPods on a Mac?+

macOS has no equalizer you can shape yourself for AirPods. TuningMac adds one to the menu bar: choose a preset like Bass Boost or Vocal, or set the bands yourself, and it applies to everything your Mac plays through your AirPods.

Which AirPods does it work with?+

The equalizer works with any AirPods, Beats or other headphones connected to your Mac, because it shapes the sound before it's sent to them. Listening mode controls appear for AirPods that support them, such as models with noise cancellation.

Will my AirPods remember the EQ?+

On your Mac, yes. TuningMac saves an EQ for each output device and loads it automatically whenever your AirPods connect. The setting doesn't change how your AirPods sound on your iPhone or iPad.

Can I switch noise cancellation on AirPods from the Mac menu bar?+

Yes. When your AirPods support it, TuningMac shows Off, Transparency, Adaptive (if available) and Noise Cancellation right under the device, without opening Control Center.

Can I use one AirPod at a time?+

Yes. Turn on Mono so you hear both channels in a single earbud, and use Balance to shift sound left or right.

Does it work with Sony or other headphones too?+

Yes. The equalizer works with any output. TuningMac can also switch noise control on Sony headphones that use Sony's current protocol (tested on the WH-1000XM5) and on many realme and OPPO earbuds.
