The specs that matter for the Marshall Major IV, what changes when you use them with a Mac, and how to EQ them while there's no published measurement yet.
No measured correction yet
AutoEQ hasn't published a measurement of the Major IV yet. Marshall says it shares the Major family's 40 mm custom-tuned driver, so the Major III correction is the closest measured starting point.

Using the Major IV with a Mac
Codec: AAC. The Major IV support SBC and AAC, and a Mac picks AAC, the better of the two. It carries the full 20 Hz to 20 kHz range at standard sample rates (44.1 or 48 kHz).
Calls sound worse than music. As soon as an app uses the headphones' microphone (Zoom, FaceTime, a dictation shortcut), Bluetooth switches to hands-free mode, which has much lower audio quality. Pick your Mac's built-in microphone as the input to keep the Major IV in stereo music mode.
How to EQ the Major IV for now
AutoEQ publishes corrections from lab measurements, and none exists for the Major IV yet. Rather than guess, this page will get the exact values as soon as a measurement is published. Until then:
- Start from Flat in TuningMac's menu bar popover, so you hear the Major IV as Marshall tuned them.
- Adjust by ear with the 10 sliders, or try a preset such as Vocal or Bass Boost as a starting point.
- TuningMac saves your EQ for the Major IV and loads it whenever they connect.
Closest measured model: Marshall Major III EQ settings. It was measured on the earlier model, so treat it as a rough starting point and adjust by ear.

Questions
Which codec do the Marshall Major IV use on a Mac?+
AAC. The Major IV support SBC and AAC, and a Mac picks AAC, the better of the two. It carries the full 20 Hz to 20 kHz range at standard sample rates.
What are the best EQ settings for the Marshall Major IV?+
There's no measured correction for the Major IV yet. AutoEQ hasn't published a measurement of the Major IV yet. Marshall says it shares the Major family's 40 mm custom-tuned driver, so the Major III correction is the closest measured starting point. Until one is published, start from a flat EQ in TuningMac and adjust by ear; this page will get the measured values as soon as they exist.
Why do my Marshall Major IV sound bad on calls on a Mac?+
When an app uses the headphones' microphone, Bluetooth switches from stereo music mode to a hands-free call mode with much lower audio quality. To keep music quality during calls, choose your Mac's built-in microphone as the input instead. TuningMac's Input list does this in one click, and its Device Info shows which mode you're in.
Should I turn off the EQ in Marshall's app?+
For the most accurate result, yes. An equalizer set in Marshall's app is applied inside the headphones, so it also affects your Mac and would add to this correction. TuningMac's EQ only changes sound from your Mac, so it won't affect your phone.
