Control your Sony headphones' noise cancelling on Mac.

Sony's app lives on your phone. TuningMac brings its noise controls to your Mac's menu bar: switch between Noise Cancelling, Ambient Sound and Off, set the ambient level and Focus on Voice, without picking up your phone.

Noise Control

Try it: pick a mode.

Noise Cancelling, Ambient Sound and Focus on Voice

Click the TuningMac icon in the menu bar and the controls appear right under your Sony headphones in the output list. Choose Noise Cancelling to block out the room, Ambient Sound to hear what's around you, or Off.

In Ambient Sound, set the level from 1 to 20 and turn Focus on Voice on to let voices through while keeping noise down. The wording matches Sony's own app, so nothing new to learn.

Hear announcements and people around you, mixed with your audio.

Supported Sony models

Tested on the WH-1000XM5. TuningMac also supports Sony headphones that use the older control protocol, including the WH-1000XM4, WH-1000XM3, WF-1000XM4 and WF-1000XM3. It asks your headphones what they support, so the controls only appear when they'll work.

Using AirPods too? They get Off, Transparency, Adaptive and Noise Cancellation in the same place.

An equalizer for your Sony headphones

The same app adds a system-wide equalizer. Pick a preset like Bass Boost or Vocal, or shape the sound yourself, and TuningMac remembers it for your Sony headphones, loading it automatically whenever they connect. For the most accurate sound, paste a correction curve for your model from AutoEQ into Advanced EQ.

  • AirPods Pro→Bass Boost
  • WH-1000XM5→Rock
  • MacBook Speakers→Vocal

Questions

Is there a Sony headphones app for Mac?+

Sony's companion app only runs on phones, so on a Mac you'd normally reach for your phone or press the button on the headphones. TuningMac adds Sony's noise controls to the Mac menu bar.

Which Sony headphones are supported?+

TuningMac is tested on the WH-1000XM5. It also supports Sony models that use the older control protocol, such as the WH-1000XM4, WH-1000XM3, WF-1000XM4 and WF-1000XM3. It detects what your headphones support rather than relying on the model name.

What can I change from the Mac?+

Noise Cancelling, Ambient Sound and Off. In Ambient Sound you can set the level from 1 to 20 and turn Focus on Voice on or off, in the same words Sony's app uses.

Can I change the EQ of my Sony headphones on a Mac?+

Yes. TuningMac's equalizer works with any headphones, and it saves a separate EQ for your Sony headphones that loads whenever they connect. You can also import a correction curve for your model from AutoEQ into the Advanced EQ.

Does it work with AirPods or other brands?+

AirPods get Off, Transparency, Adaptive (when available) and Noise Cancellation. Many realme and OPPO earbuds get Noise Cancelling, Transparency and Off. Bose and other brands aren't supported yet.

Do I need to install anything else?+

No. Just TuningMac, on macOS 14.2 Sonoma or later. It talks to your headphones over the existing Bluetooth connection.
